Swedish mobile operator Comviq launches EU’s first flat rate roaming mobile subscription
Today Swedish mobile operator Comviq launched a new subscription enabling Swedish customers to call, text and surf the web at a low, flat rate price, regardless of roaming. The new product, “Fastpris EU”, is the first flat rate mobile subscription ever introduced to cover the entire European Union (EU).
Operators have long been questioned for high roaming fees that customers have been charged after using their cellphones abroad. Even though the Swedes love their smartphones – the penetration level is among the highest in the world – Swedes have not been able to use their phones while travelling in Europe, without risking high roaming charges.
– Our customers want to be able to use their mobile phones while roaming as they do back home in Sweden. With our new flat rate mobile subscription we can offer what our customers demand while roaming: freedom, flexibility and cost control, says Magnus Larsson, head of Swedish mobile operator Comviq.
Comviq’s new subscription is available to all Swedish customers for 495 SEK – approximately 55 Euro – per month and enables customers to call and text within and across the whole EU internal market. The plan also includes 1 Gigabyte (GB) of data for internet access in the whole Union. Customers that use up their data bucket can buy more, 1 GB at approximately 33 Euro. This sets a new norm for EU roaming data prices among Swedish and European mobile operators – the Swedish average price for 1 GB EU roaming data among Comviq’s competitors is approximately 196 Euros.
– The European mobile operators have not been creative in finding solutions when it comes to roaming. Comviq is the first mobile operator in the history of the EU to offer a mobile service that truly supports the Union’s core idea of free movement, says Magnus Larsson, head of Swedish mobile operator Comviq.
