Livermore CA, (January 17, 2011) -- Concannon Vineyard continued its award-winning history by scoring 19 medals at the 2011 San Francisco Wine Competition.  "These results are a new record for us, and show the consistency and quality of our wines year after year,” said John Concannon fourth-generation vintner.

In 2011, Concannon Vineyard is celebrating 50 years as America’s First Petite Sirah. The historic winery received two golds for that variety: one for its 2007 Concannon Reserve Petite Sirah and one for its 2008 Selected Vineyards Petite Sirah.  "We're so proud to be leading the pack with our 'own' variety," Concannon said.

In addition to the Petite Sirah Gold, Concannon 2009 Conservancy Chardonnay earned gold and silver was awarded to a number of Concannon’s Reserve wines including 2008 Syrah and 2009 Chardonnay; 2007 Nina's Cuvee, 2007 Captain Joe's Petite Sirah, and 2008 Assemblage Red Limited Release were also medal recipients.

“As we enter a new decade, I think that my great-grandfather would be very proud to have his name on our current vintages. We are especially pleased with the Double Gold for our 2008 Conservancy Cabernet Sauvignon.   The grapes for this wonderful wine, and the rest of the Conservancy tier, were sourced from vineyards set aside in a land trust that preserves and protects vineyards from urban development.  The Conservancy tier of wines with our recent organic cellar certification, are just the first steps on a path to sustaining and preserving our way of life for future generations,” said Concannon.

Concannon Selected Vineyards wines, sourced from the Central Coast appellation, received medals for nine different varietals: Petite Sirah, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Merlot, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz.  Along with the Double Gold for the Conservancy Cabernet Sauvignon, the rest of the Conservancy tier was awarded three additional medals for the Chardonnay, Merlot and Petite Sirah.

With four generations of family involvement, Concannon Vineyard’s pioneering contributions to viticulture and winemaking have positioned it as a landmark winery with an enduring commitment to creating outstanding, award-winning wines. Founder of America’s First Petite Sirah, Concannon introduced Cabernet Sauvignon clones 7, 8 and 11 which provided the backbone of Napa Valley’s Cabernet resurgence in the 1970s and 1980s.  Served on family tables for over 127 years, the pioneering winery has invested millions to revitalize its estate vineyards and restore its historic winery ensuring that future generations continue to enjoy the world-class wines envisioned by its founder James Concannon.
