Reliant Plastics named one of three finalist for Material and Components category of the Crystal Cabin Award

Plano, Texas, March 18, 2015 - Reliant Worldwide Plastics, LLC, a leading global provider of injection-molding products and services to the commercial aerospace industry, announced that its patent-pending thermoplastic composite integrated seat back has been selected as one of three finalists for the esteemed commercial aerospace interiors industry Crystal Cabin Award. Competing in the Efficient Solutions category, also known as the "Material and Components" grouping, Reliant's product was chosen over a hundred entries for its innovative use of thermoplastic composites to reduce weight on commercial aircraft subsequently reducing the carbon footprint of aircraft while maintaining strength and aerospace safety requirements. The winner of the Crystal Cabin Awards will be announced in Hamburg, Germany on April 14, and the ceremony promises to be an exciting evening of innovation.

Utilizing a unique process to molecularly bond thermoplastics and carbon fiber impregnated composites, Reliant Worldwide Plastics has created a way to replace traditional aluminum structural, semi-structural and cosmetic components with its patent-pending technology, saving on average 40% weight. "Besides the integrated seatback, Reliant is currently producing patent-pending seat arms, tray tables and tray table arms out of the technology and also has patent-pending designs for seat legs, seat spreaders as well as other structural parts in development" said Craig Clark, CEO of Reliant Worldwide Plastics.

The Crystal Cabin Award, the "Oscar" of the aircraft interiors industry, has seldom been as exciting as it is in 2015, its 9th year. A panel of 24 international judges reviewed entries from 18 different countries across all categories of the award: Industrial Design and Visionary Concepts, Premium Class & VIP, Passenger Comfort Systems, Passenger Comfort Hardware, Material & Components, Greener Cabin Health - Safety & Environment, and University. Three finalists were selected for each category from a shortlist of 68 semi-finalists. In a number of the seven different categories this year, big-name heavyweights are fighting it out for the internationally coveted prize. "To make it to the final round of the competition is an accomplishment in itself when you consider we are competing against billion dollar companies who spend tens of millions on R&D each year" said Clark. "That tells you the power of our integrated thermoplastic composite seat back and we are quite proud of our design team in Gainesville, Texas."
