Connect Things acquired by AirClic The U.S. company AirClic Inc. has acquired Connect Things Sweden AB, which was spun off from Ericsson in 1999. Both companies are pioneers in developing bar code technology for mobile Internet. In addition to the acquisition, AirClic announced that they will receive a substantial capital injection. Symbol Technologies Inc., a world leader in bar code reader technology, a group of private investors led by Goldman Sachs, Ericsson Business Innovation AB, and Motorola Inc. are responsible for the capital injection. AirClic's newly elected chairman of board will be Harvey Golub, chairman and former CEO for American Express. "Ericsson supports AirClic's standard," says Jöran Hoff, CEO at Ericsson Business Innovation AB, "and we see potential advantages for mobile users worldwide. "Connect Things and AirClic have developed bar code technologies that enable direct access to information and services on the Internet - without convoluted routes via search engines or long Web addresses," says Khalid Qureshi, vice president sales at Connect Things Sweden AB.
