Christmas tree sings for Hearing Dogs in Coppergate Centre
Generous visitors to the Coppergate Centre in York are being asked to dig deep this Christmas to help raise funds for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People – with those giving a pound rewarded with a tune and extra lights on the Coppergate Christmas tree.
The charity, which has a base on the outskirts of York just off the A1079, will be bringing its volunteers, dogs and mascots Bernie and Bruce, to the Coppergate Centre throughout December to help raise money for the organisation, which trains and provides assistant dogs to those with hearing impairments. When they are not around, visitors can simply drop a £1 coin into the slot by the Christmas tree to hear a special festive tune, and to trigger even more lights on the tree.
“We choose a local charity each Christmas to support, and we are always so impressed by the work done at the York training centre of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, so we are delighted to be working with them this year,” comments Centre Manager, Pippa Unwin. “We’re delighted each time we hear the tune playing, knowing that every pound helps this great cause.”
The Coppergate Centre is currently bustling with stalls for the city-wide St Nicholas Fayre, with great numbers of shoppers heading down to visit the new city-centre branch of Primark, which opened this morning (Thursday 8 December). As well as Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, the square at the heart of the centre will host brass bands and visiting choirs in the run-up to Christmas to entertain shoppers.
