Training by Design celebrates a Lion winner

Hazel Waddington, Principal Income Management Services Manager with Bolton at Home, a housing association in Bolton, has received the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Learner of the Year Medal of Excellence - and walked away with a 2013 Lion Award at the City & Guilds Lion Awards Dinner at the Round House in London on 5th June.

Hazel Waddington from Kearsley in Bolton undertook an ILM Level 3 Certificate with Cheshire-based Training by Design when she was Neighbourhood Services Team Leader with Eastlands Homes - a housing association with 8,000 properties in Manchester.

Her enthusiasm and genuine interest in learning took the certificate far beyond the confines of the training room, enabling her to gain knowledge, confidence, and even a new job with Bolton at Home, where the 31-year-old now manages a team of 45 people.

Ann Burton, Founder and Managing Director of Training by Design, said:” I am so proud of Hazel, particularly as she was one of only 14 people in the UK to receive a Lion Award this year! She is a superb example of a young, motivated, inquisitive individual who has embraced learning and applied it to real life working environments where it has impacted positively on her own career and on team members’ and colleagues’ morale, motivation, confidence and development.”

Commenting on her success, Hazel said: ”Winning the Medal of Excellence and then the Lion Award was such a compliment. My tutors, Ann Burton and her colleague, Colin Melrose, were fantastic role models for me and really supported me throughout. Seeing how they facilitated the training sessions motivated me to be a better, more consistent manager and I took my learning back into the office. The investment from Training by Design and Eastlands Home definitely helped me to get my promotion at Bolton at Home where I will soon be doing ILM Level 5 Certificate. I am still overwhelmed!”
