WHO:

Restaurateur Frank Leon and his attorney wife Margarita Manduley are hosting their Fourth Annual Evening of Hope charity benefit to help pediatric patients in critical need of life-altering spinal surgeries at the FOCOS (The Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine) Orthopedic Hospital in Ghana. WHY:

The Leon’s beautiful and brave son, Issa, was born in a remote village in Sierra Leone where he contracted tuberculosis at a very young age.  This caused his spine to develop a kyphosis fracture and had Dr. Boachie not performed surgery, his spine would have collapsed and he would have been paralyzed. The Leon’s met Issa at the FOCOS Hospital and eventually adopted him (as well as his younger brother, Abu). The Leon’s are supporters of Dr. Boachie and his FOCOS organization so that it can continue saving the lives of some of the most disadvantaged children in the world.

WHAT:

The Evening of Hope will be hosted by actor Dexter Darden (The Maze Runner, Geography Club), with a special guest appearance by Brandon Micheal Hall (ABC's The Mayor, Search Party). The festivities will include live African music, dancing, special performances, and the chance to bid on unique silent/live auction items. The $100.00 ticket price includes a full course buffet-style dinner and open bar (children are free). Every dollar raised will be earmarked exclusively for funding spinal surgeries for Sierra Leonean pediatric patients at the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital in Ghana

About FOCOS:

FOCOS (The Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine) is an international non-profit that provides specialized orthopedic care, education and training to transform the lives of patients in underserved communities across the globe. The organization was founded in 1998 by Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, a world-renowned orthopedic surgeon who saw that children were growing up with spinal deformities that prevented them from standing tall, or even breathing properly, and decided to do something about it. The patients treated at FOCOS are among some of the most severe in the world, but with the support of our dedicated staff, volunteers, generous donors and partners, the FOCOS team is able to complete hundreds of life saving surgeries each year.
