**Media Advisory for June 11, 2014** On Wednesday, June 11, the U.S. House of Representatives is considering its FY15 Agriculture Appropriations spending bill. As discussions on this issue continue, the 450 retired admirals and generals who are members of Mission: Readiness are urging lawmakers not to delay or weaken the implementation of the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act. Passed in 2010 with bipartisan support, the legislation updated nutrition standards for school meals and for snack foods sold in school vending machines and cafeterias.  As a result, 90 percent of the nation’s

As a result of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, more than 90 percent of the nation’s school districts are successfully implementing nutrition standards that ensure students are offered appealing, nourishing school lunches. This fall, schools will also be providing healthier options in vending machines and cafeteria “à la carte” lines. Merger of ReadyNation and America’s Edge will create a unified voice to mobilize business champions for proven investments in children and youth

On February 18th, two preeminent national initiatives that mobilize business leaders to champion investments in children to improve the nation’s economy will join forces.  ReadyNation, currently a project of America’s Promise Alliance (America’s Promise), will merge with America’s Edge, a project of the Council for a Strong America.   The combined entity, under the Council for a Strong America umbrella, will be the largest of its kind in the United States.  Work of the two organizations will continue under both names during the transition, until the merged entity’s name is determined
