Serves fresh Mexican “Street Food” and Live Music

SAN ANTONIO -- The owners of The County Line restaurants will open its newest venture—Barriba Cantina—on September 12, 2011 on the San Antonio River Walk in downtown San Antonio.

The two-story Barriba Cantina has roughly 2,500 square feet at 111 Crockett Street, on the second and third story of the same building that is also home to The County Line Bar-B-Q restaurant. The restaurant and bar for Barriba Cantina will be located on the street level with balconies and patios overlooking the River Walk. The top floor contains the large meeting space with balconies and patios overlooking the River Walk, and the covered outdoor patio with view of San Antonio’s downtown skyline and the river. County Line is located on the river level of the same building.

Open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday – Saturday, Barriba Cantina will feature Mexican street food that is available til closing time. Examples from the menu include Mango Pork Carnitas (slow-cooked lean pork with a blend of traditional Mexican seasonings, served on corn tortillas topped with homemade mango and avocado tomatillo salsas, corn pico de gallo and pickled onions topped with ancho sauce and cotija cheese), Baja Pescado (tilapia seasoned with a mile ancho chile rub, served on corn tortillas topped with corn pico de gallo, jalapeño ranch, avocado tomatillo salsa and cotija cheese), Tacos Del Rey (beef marinated with mild chipotle chilies and a blend of Mexican spices, then cooked and served on corn tortillas topped with fresh chipotle slaw, caramelize onions, avocado tomatillo salsa, corn pico de gallo and cotija cheese—created in honor of Randy Goss, the Rib King of San Antonio), Bango Mango Martini (pineapple infused Sauza Tequila, mango, lime juice and Dulce Vida Organic Agave Nectar) and Berriba (Bacardi, Triple Sec, pineapple juice, blueberries and raspberries). A To-Go menu will eventually be added.

Barriba will also offer live acoustical music everyday from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m., with a cover charge after 10 p.m. (cover charge will vary based on musicians). Music schedules will be updated regularly on Barriba Cantina’s Facebook page at facebook.com/BarribaCantina.

The top floor private meeting space accommodates up to 200 guests with its covered patio (which is heated in the winter). The meeting room also features state-of-the-art video equipment for visual presentations; renters can choose catering options from either The County Line Bar-B-Q or Barriba Cantina menus.

The outdoor patio on the top floor will be open to County Line and Barriba guests, if not rented for a private party.

BACKGROUND: A little over two years ago, Gina Hartbarger, the general manager for The County Line Riverwalk for more than 12 years, discovered that the space above County Line (which previously was a Starbucks) was set to become vacant.

“We were looking for years for overflow space for County Line’s guests waiting for a table, as well as a private space for those who love our food and wanted to have a rehearsal dinner, business meeting or whatever on the fabulous San Antonio River,” says Hartbarger who will be GM of Barriba Cantina and The County Line Riverwalk. “As soon as I saw the space, I knew we had found it—and so much more!”

Hartbarger credits County Line owners Skeeter Miller and Ed Norton with helping her make Barriba a reality.   “Ed came up with the look of Barriba—very bright and cheerful with lots of beautiful tiles, murals, fixtures and local art; Skeeter came up with the fun menu of quick Mexican street food made with locally-grown food,” Hartbarger adds. “I have the energy and passion to make it all come together in the four short months since Starbucks vacated.”

With locations all over the southwest, The County Line has served up award-winning barbeque “that’s so good you'll want to ‘Get It All Over Ya!’" since 1975. The County Line has been in San Antonio for more than 30 years, with locations at 10101 IH-10 West (near the Medical Center) and the River Walk location at 111 W. Crockett St. In 1990, The County Line Restaurants began shipping its legendary barbeque to all parts of the United States via its Air Ribs division.
