Caravanners urged to check the status of CaSSOA accredited sites

A caravan insurance specialist is warning caravanners who use CaSSOA approved caravan storage facilities to check that the site is still accredited.

CaSSOA – the caravan storage site owners’ association – is an independent body that works towards minimising the theft of caravans and motorhomes by promoting the highest levels of security.

Storage sites that are CaSSOA accredited are perceived to offer the most secure caravan storage facilities, meaning that site owners can justifiably charge more for their services than a non-accredited site.

Some insurers also offer discounted caravan insurance premiums (typically up to 10%, depending on the insurer) on caravans and motorhomes that are stored at these accredited sites, because these sites have very high levels of security.

“However,” says Richard Burgess, Director at Cover4Caravans.co.uk: “there are suggestions within the industry that some storage sites have lost their CaSSOA accreditation - but have not disclosed this.

“The ramifications of this are potentially huge – caravan owners are typically paying for what they believe is an approved service, when it isn’t. Also, in the event of a claim, there could be complications where an insurer has a note on a customer’s file that their caravan is stored at a CaSSOA accredited site, but it turns out that it isn’t.

“We urge caravanners who use CaSSOA approved storage to double check that the facility is still accredited, to ensure they are getting what they are paying for”.
