Caravanning more popular than ever says caravan insurance specialist
Research* from caravan insurance specialists Cover4Caravans.co.uk has revealed that caravanning is still a popular pastime, with 82% of Brits saying they have stayed, or plan to stay in, a caravan within the coming year.
The study compared results to the same set of questions asked 6 months ago**, to see whether perceptions of caravanning, as well as preferred destinations, have changed.
The survey showed:
- previously (March 2015), 74% of Brits have stayed, or plan to stay in, a caravan – this figure has increased by 8% in the last 6 months;
- 6% of people have been to Europe in a caravan in the last year – a 2% decrease since March 2015**;
- the most popular destination for caravanners travelling to mainland Europe is France;
- Cornwall, Wales, Scotland and Devon were named as favourite UK caravan holiday hot spots;
- compared to 6 months ago, 16% of people were put off caravanning by the perceived cost of a caravan holiday (previously it was 12%);
- other reasons cited for not going on a caravan holiday were the stigma, and the facilities being too basic (both 16% each )
- the most prolific caravanners live in the Midlands and Southern England;
- when asked what they liked best about caravanning, respondents cited the cost, followed by “being great for kids” and “no airport hassle”.
