Caravanning second most popular choice for a ‘staycation’ this year

With the UK economy being boosted by an estimated £2.4billion due to staycations, caravan insurance specialist Cover4Caravans.co.uk has carried out its own independent research* on staycation accommodation trends.

It found that over two-thirds of Brits have enjoyed a staycation this year, with caravanning being the second most popular choice of accommodation.

The study revealed that of the staycationers …

  • 28% stayed in a hotel
  • 15% stayed in their own or a rented caravan
  • 14% stayed in a B&B
  • a further 13% stayed in a rented cottage / accommodation.

When asked the reasons why they enjoyed caravanning ...

  • 58% said the cost
  • 47% said that they are great for kids
  • 38% love the freedom of the open road and no set mealtimes
  • one in five (21%) said there is no airport hassle nor costs.

Richard Burgess, Director at Cover4Caravans, explains: “According to data from VisitEngland, £1.9billion was spent on holiday parks and caravan trips last year and this is expected to have increased this year. Our own data supports the popularity of caravanning, with more than one in ten Brits having a staycation this Summer in a caravan.

“The majority of those who don’t like caravan holidays (45%) said that they are too basic but this isn’t necessarily the case. Today’s touring and static caravans are spacious, with clever storage, and all the mod-cons you could want.

“Also caravan parks are located in some fantastic areas around the country and have great amenities for all the family. So this is really a time to explore the UK by staying in a caravan or holiday park.

“We have written a range of caravanning guides for different types of holidays, which can be considered as a staycation. You can read those popular guides here: http://www.cover4caravans.co.uk/articles/quick-guides”.
