Cornwall beats Paris and Venice as the most romantic destination
A new study* has named Cornwall as Brits’ most romantic travel destination. The poll - carried out by caravan insurance specialists Cover4Caravans – shows that 16% of their customers cite Cornwall as the most romantic place they have been to.
The research also reveals that:
- both Devon and Scotland respectively are the second most popular destination for lovers, both getting 8% of the votes each;
- the third most romantic destination is the Lake District (5%).
Cyprus got 4% of votes, followed closely by the New Forest, Wales, Whitby and Dorset, all who attracted 3% each in the poll.
Venice and Paris – traditionally seen as the romance capitals - got just 1% of votes each.
Richard Burgess, Director at Cover4Caravans.co.uk says: “When we started this poll, we expected European destinations to be named as the most romantic places by our clients.
“So it is refreshing that Cornwall - home of the fictional, troubled Captain Ross Poldark - won hands down, knocking both Venice and Paris out of the park with 16% of votes.
“And with the top three romantic destinations all being in the UK, it just goes to prove that despite Britain’s often dismal weather, it still doesn’t cool our ardour.”
Cornwall was also voted the favourite childhood destination by (different) Cover4Caravans clients earlier in the year.
