Don’t be afraid to shop around for static caravan cover says insurance provider

Insurance specialist Cover4Caravans.co.uk is advising owners of static caravans that they are not, in most cases, obliged to take out the insurance offered by the site owners where their caravan is situated.

“We have recently heard that many static home owners feel pressured in to taking the site owner’s own insurance, with many believing it is obligatory” comments Richard Burgess, Director from Cover4Caravans.

He adds: “In most cases, however, you are free to shop around for your own cover, meaning you may find a policy that is more appropriate for your needs, and which better suits your budget”.

Mr. Burgess explains that static caravan insurance typically covers the structure of the ‘van, the fixtures and fittings (such as a fitted kitchen or built in wardrobe), the contents and personal possessions, as well as third party liability claims (such as if you let your static caravan to guests for holidays).

He recommends that static home owners shop around and compare the cover against what is available from the site owner – if even just to satisfy themselves that they are getting the most suitable for cover for them and at a cost-effective price.

“If you don’t opt to take the site owner’s insurance, then they are within their rights to charge you a small admin fee – amounts of £35 are not uncommon – to check that you have the correct levels of cover. Even so, in the long run, you could still save money overall on the cost of your cover.”
