The EU cancelling Summer? New proposed laws will not just impact caravanners but businesses too!

With more and more families heading off for cheaper holidays at home and abroad in their caravans, and with whispers of the EU forcing caravan owners to have expensive MOT-style tests which could amount to hundreds of pounds every year* - Cover4Caravans - the caravan insurance specialists – have carried out independent research** to see just where are the caravan holiday hotspots.

In the UK, the top three holiday hotspots (in order of preference) are:

  • Dorset
  • Cornwall
  • Scotland

Of those caravanners who go abroad, 28% opt for France and 17% choose Spain.

Richard Burgess, Director at Cover4Caravans, says: “These costly new tests could have a serious affect on the holiday habits of cash-strapped Brits. Since the economic crisis, the number of people opting for caravan holidays has increased, due to how cost-effective it is. Yet with the EU potentially adding hundreds of pounds to the yearly upkeep of a caravan, this could force some people to stop having holidays.

"Will this have a knock on economic tourist impact in the UK?" asks Burgess. "Our survey shows it will, as most people travelling currently do so within the UK, and if they can't afford to travel, the areas they normally visit and spend money in will suffer too!"
