Cranfield MBA Regatta celebrates 20th anniversary
Over two hundred MBA students from some of Europe’s top business schools are expected in Portsmouth later this month (22-24 July) to compete in the Cranfield MBA Regatta which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The event is the longest-running business school yachting regatta in Europe and is organised annually by MBA students from Cranfield School of Management.
The regatta provides an opportunity for MBA students and alumni from some of Europe’s leading business schools to put into practice some of the leadership and organisational skills learnt on their MBA programmes as well as have a lot of fun. 36 crews from 15 European business schools will compete in the two-day sailing extravaganza of ‘fixed points’ races in a fleet of Sunsail F40 yachts. The event combines a mixture of competitive racing with hospitality and entertainment over the course of the weekend. On Saturday evening, a formal dinner will be held for all participating crews at the Cowes Yacht Haven on the Isle of Wight.
Event organiser and full-time MBA student at Cranfield, Arun Gupta said: “This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Cranfield Regatta and it is shaping up to be the best yet. It is a once in a lifetime experience for MBAs to take a break from their studies to experience one of the most prestigious sailing events of the MBA calendar and socialise with alumni and students from Europe’s top business schools.”
The competitive nature and intensity of yacht racing is renowned for testing leadership and teamwork skills to the limit. Similar skills apply to the development of good managers, as well as the comprehensive grounding in business and management that an MBA qualification provides.
