Cranfield School of Management announced today that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TiasNimbas Business School of Tilburg University in the Netherlands to offer a joint dual degree International Executive Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) programme tailored to the needs of senior managers around the world.

The International Executive Doctorate (DBA) is the highest level business qualification one can attain and is designed for experienced senior managers and executives who already have a master’s degree and wish to carry out in-depth research on a key management issue in their field to advance their professional career.

Studied part-time over four years, the new programme combines the outstanding reputation of Cranfield’s Executive Doctorate programme with the enhanced international context provided by TiasNimbas and the Tilburg School of Economics and Management, which is world renowned for its research in economics and business. The Cranfield DBA is one of only seven programmes worldwide to be accredited by the Association of MBAs, the world's impartial authority on postgraduate management education.

Professor Alan Harrison, Director of the Cranfield International Executive Doctorate said: “We believe this program is the first doctoral program in the world that leads to two degrees: a DBA (Doctor of Business Administration) from Cranfield and a PhD from Tilburg University. DBA candidates are a highly diverse group of professionals from a variety of industries, cultures, nationalities and backgrounds. As well as the networking and learning opportunities, participants will benefit from the quality of study facilities, supervisory expertise, alumni networks and the international research perspective offered by Cranfield and TiasNimbas.”

Ramon O’Callaghan, Dean of TiasNimbas Business School, said: “The new executive doctorate not only contributes to professional development for programme participants but also helps their organizations overcome the gap between knowledge and action through research. The strong combination of academic rigor and practical relevance that both Cranfield and TiasNimbas share as well as the excellent credentials of the Tilburg University, School of Economics and Management (ranked top 3 in Europe in business and economics research) allows us to deliver a unique programme of truly exceptional quality. We look forward to working closely with Cranfield and making the international executive doctorate a leading programme worldwide.

Professor Frank Horwitz, Director of Cranfield School of Management said: “We are pleased to formalise our partnership with TiasNimbas. Successful participants will be awarded a highly respected international business qualification from not one but two world-class institutions. The programme is at the heart of Cranfield’s approach to research, learning and professional development. The fact that it starts with a genuine business issue provides an opportunity for experienced managers to learn together, share experiences and make a real difference to their organisations through well crafted research.”

The first students to be recruited to the new dual degree International Executive DBA programme will start their studies in September 2012.
