Press Release For Immediate Release 6th November 2009 Small Wiltshire Business Succeeds During The Recession Thanks To SEO Small Wiltshire Business CGE Gifts Record Their Best Year Yet, Thanks To Internet Marketing Campaign. Since the recession has hit the UK, many businesses have suffered and a lot of new businesses have struggled to find funding for their start up. Many companies have chosen to slash marketing budgets in an effort to cut spending but this can sometimes be the worst thing to do. It is important to focus your marketing efforts on what is working rather than what isn’t. For smaller businesses, spending their marketing budget wisely has become vital and one such business has managed to get it right by using search engine optimisation. Can’t Get Enough Gifts is a small engraving business specialising in the sale of high quality gifts for weddings, christenings and anniversaries. James and Helenaur Cairns started the company after they couldn’t find desirable and affordable gifts for their own wedding. The couple set about running their business from home, selling the engraved gifts through an e-bay shop. This soon progressed into their own official website www.cgegifts.co.uk. Although the e-bay shop performed well, it wasn’t until the summer of 2007 that the website was up and running and the number of visitors began to grow. CGE Gifts decided to employ the services of a local web design and search engine optimisation company called Cravenplan. They embarked on a partnership to help improve the website’s online visibility and positions in search engines like Google using search engine optimisation as well as a pay per click advertising campaign. Within a year of having search engine optimisation, the website saw an 89% increase in visitor numbers along with corresponding sales figures. The success of the website led to the couple moving the business out of their home and into a unit in the local business park in Pewsey. Helenaur said: “Since October 2008, customers have specified where they found us giving us a great insight into what has been working for us in terms of marketing. We have found that 92% of our total sales come from the search engines and we have been able to concentrate our advertising budget where it is most effective to maximise our sales.” Our results for 2008 are below: Source % Sales Google Search 78% Yahoo search 5% Other Search Engines 5% Other online stores and adverts 5% Other advertising (not specified) 2% Recommended by friend 2% Wedding Fairs and Exhibitions 2% Magazines and other publications 1% Sales for the first quarter of 2009 were up by 72% compared to the first part of 2008 and have continued to grow throughout the year. As a result additional staff members have been recruited to cope with the demand. “We are delighted to have been able to take on 2 new staff, one of which has come to us via an initiative by Wiltshire Council to get employees with learning difficulties back into work,” says Helenaur. “With a further 59% increase in visitors in September 2009 compared with September 2008, it looks set to be another successful Christmas for CGE gifts,” she adds.
