Leicestershire based photographer Ian Pickering has achieved an Award of Excellence in a major national professional photography competition.

The Master Photography Awards are organised by the Master Photographers Association (MPA). Ian beat off competition from other leading professional photographers from across Britain to win the title of 'UK Commercial Photographer of the Year 2009'. In addition, he was named Midlands Wedding Portfolio Photographer of the Year and was awarded National runner up in the Wedding Photography Category. Hundreds of professional photographers from around the world were joined by representatives from major photographic companies at a glittering awards ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel in Newcastle. A Master Photography Awards is one of the most prestigious within the photographic profession. Membership of the MPA is restricted to full time professional photographers who must qualify to the minimum required Licentiateship standard. The organisation exists to promote and maintain standards of excellence and professionalism within the photographic industry. Paying tribute to Ian’s success, MPA Chief Executive Colin Buck said: “There was a great diversity of imagery, and all were judged on the same criteria: artistic merit, good use of lighting, composition and print quality - all the winners were of a very high overall standard. Winning a Master Photography Award is a huge honour for any photographer and I'm delighted for Ian.” Ian, whose studio is based in Sharnford near Hinckley, is delighted with his recent success: “I still can’t quite believe it. To be recognised by my peers is great. My business is going from strength to strength, and all the hard work is now starting to pay off. Hopefully this award will help me gain new business, which is very exciting”.
