FOUNDATION AIMS TO HELP GREAT-GRAND PARENTS WITH A BIG HEART

BRIDGEWATER, NY – July 16, 2012 – The Holmes Brothers Building Fund hopes to raise $40,000 to help renovate the Bridgewater mobile home of Bobby and Eleanor Holmes, who adopted their five great-grandchildren after the young siblings were at risk of being separated and placed in the foster care system. 

The couple, for the past five years, has been living in their overly crowded double-wide mobile home with their five great-grandsons. Bobby and Eleanor originally bought the "just-the-right-size" home in 1999 for their retirement. About a year ago, the already cramped accommodations became an even tighter fit when Eleanor’s 93 year old mother moved in due age-related health issues, forcing the five brothers, ages 5-11, to share one small bedroom as well as a small, hallway bathroom with their great-great-grandmother.  

Juanita Bass, Bobby’s sister, contacted the show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition with the heartbreaking story, and the family was a finalist, but in the end the much-needed home makeover went to another family. 

Determined to help get something done the 77 year-old Bass set up ‘The Holmes Brothers Building Fund’ in hopes of having community members donate to help pay for $40,000 of the renovation which would add four bedrooms and two bathrooms onto the double-wide mobile home. Building started in April with some donations and retirement savings the Holmes' had saved up over the years, but it is not nearly enough to cover the entire $60,000 cost of the addition needed to transform the tiny home for two into a house for eight. The fund has received quite a few small donations from family members and friends, but Bass, hoping to spread the word about the worthy cause, asked one of her friends to create The Holmes Brothers Building Fund website.
