CTT SYSTEMS AB and RAYTHEON SYSTEMS COMPANY have reached an agreement regarding development of a Zonal Dryer for the NASA/DLR project SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy). The design of Zonal Dryer to be developed by CTT Systems will be installed onboard a NASA-owned, USRA-operated Boeing 747 SP aircraft equipped with a infrared telescope. CTT´s Zonal Dryer will prevent condensation from forming on the telescope mirrors during flight and particular the descent phase. The SOFIA project is a research programme conducted by NASA, DLR (the German Aerospace Center) and USRA (Universities Space Research Association). The objective is to make sensitive infrared measurements of a wide range of astronomical objects. The aircraft will operate at up to 45.000 feet in order to avoid the obscuring water from the Earth´s atmosphere and hence achieve observations that are impossible for even the largest and highest ground-based telescope. To learn the latest about SOFIA, please visit at http://sofia.arc.nasa.gov The Raytheon Systems Company is responsible for the extensive modification of the aircraft´s structure and control systems. The aircraft will have an open cavity to house the 2.5 meter (98.5 inch) diameter telescope to allow it to manoeuvre during flight. It is a great honour for CTT to have been invited to participate in the SOFIA project headed by NASA. The challenge for us is to overcome the difficulty of O O attaining and maintaining the dew point of -65 C (minus 85 F) necessary to prevent condensation interfering with the efficiency of the telescope, comments CTT Systems AB president Mr. Torbjörn Johansson. TM The CTT Zonal Drying System is designed to combat problems related to water condensation in the thermal and acoustic insulation of modern passenger aircraft. Airlines encountering "rain-in-the-plane" syndrome and other difficulties related to moisture accumulation in their insulation blankets can TM use the Zonal Drying System to migrate these problems, reduce maintenance costs by increasing the service life of the insulation and realise significant fuel savings by eliminating the non-revenue weight of the accumulated water condensate. By keeping dry the area between the interior trim panels and the TM aircraft skin, the Zonal Drying System also reduces corrosion and the risk of failure of electronic systems and wiring. TM To date , CTT have the following customers for their Zonal Drying system: Martinair for B767-300 and MD11 Jet Aviation for Excecutive aircrafts B767-200 and B757-200 - KLM Royal Dutch Airlines for MD11 Austrian Airlines for MD80 LTU for Airbus A330 CTT Systems AB is located in Nyköping, Sweden and listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange O-list.
