All-new gas generator sets from Cummins Power Generation offer quiet operation for light commercial standby applications
Operating on either natural gas or LP, these feature-rich generator sets offer increased reliability and convenience for businesses.
MINNEAPOLIS – Cummins Power Generation has introduced a new family of gas generator sets with output ratings from 20 kW to 60 kW that are designed for light commercial standby power applications. Attractively packaged and exceptionally quiet, these new generator sets operate on either natural gas or LP and are sized to provide reliable backup power for businesses – even those needing three-phase power.
“Cummins Power Generation is entering the light commercial marketplace with new and innovative standby generators that feature our legendary product performance, quality and service, specifically designed for this segment,” said Tony Satterthwaite, VP Cummins, Inc., President, Cummins Power Generation. “Now it’s easier and more affordable than ever for business owners to enjoy the peace of mind that reliable backup power from Cummins Power Generation can provide.
The new light commercial series is powered by the reliable Cummins QSJ2.4 and features Cummins CA series alternators that have been developed exclusively for this family of generators. The QSJ2.4 is a 4-cylinder inline engine that can be easily switched between LP or natural gas with no mechanical changes. The electronic closed loop fuel system of the QSJ2.4 allows the engine to perform in varying altitude and temperature ranges without needing any manual fuel adjustments. The electronic system design also means that there are fewer components that may break and need repairs; therefore, the reliability of the engine is improved over its lifespan. The generator sets are available in two engine configurations that operate at either 1800 RPM or 3600 RPM. One of the key features of the unit’s CA series alternator is its brushless design, which extends alternator life and minimizes additional maintenance requirements.
“In designing this new series, we found that in addition to high reliability, our customers wanted a standby generator that was quiet enough so that it would not disturb nearby neighbors,” said Rama Menon, marketing manager for the residential and light commercial segment of Cummins Power Generation. “These generators are designed to be super quiet and the low sound levels have been achieved through advanced sound attenuation design and testing conducted at Cummins Power Generation’s industry-leading Acoustical Testing Center (ATC). The ATC provides Cummins Power Generation with a unique capability to test, improve and validate sound performance. In addition, these units are attractively packaged to blend in with the environment.”
The new enclosures feature durable all-aluminum construction and optional sandstone or green powder coatings for superior resistance to corrosion. In addition to excellent sound attenuation, the enclosures are designed to eliminate water ingress and withstand winds of up to 150 MPH.
The units’ feature-rich controls improve the user experience by simplifying operation, maintenance and diagnostics. The units also meet all EPA emissions regulations for emergency and stationary generators, as well as UL 2200, IBC seismic and NFPA 110 standards. The new series is fully supported by the Cummins distributor network throughout North America.
