Akamai teams with Cybercom Forced Web site shutdowns may become history. Cybercom will be one of an exclusive group of partners integrating Akamai's services. Akamai, the world's largest distributed computing platform, helps enterprises and government agencies to extend and control their e-business infrastructures around the world and on demand. According to the agreement between the companies, Cybercom will integrate Akamai's on-demand Internet solutions for customers in Sweden and the rest of northern Europe. These solutions are built around Akamai's globally distributed platform for content, streaming media, and application delivery. Companies don't need to build up Web site infrastructure or capacity sitting idle for 300 days a year; instead they can eliminate infrastructure build-out costs and reduce transit bandwidth costs. The two-fold advantage of the service is a measurable performance increase and an ability to support unexpected volumes of traffic. The arrangement is a win-win situation for both companies and their customers. Cybercom's Java experts perform integration services for Akamai, and Akamai can refer business to Cybercom. Akamai gets local market presence and additional sales support, while Cybercom fulfils its strategy to follow its customers around the globe. Both companies' customers get flexible, reliable, secure Internet-based operations. Akamai's products are used by several of Cybercom's multinational customers. "We see big demand for increased capacity when it comes to managing unexpected high-volume traffic," says Johan Glimskog, MD Global Communication Solutions within the Cybercom Group, "particularly from multinationals and authorities - because at times, Web sites get so overloaded that they're forced to shut down. Through our relationship with Akamai, we can help solve this, and deliver better, faster and more cost efficient Web applications deployment." "Akamai is aligning our efforts with today's leading IT consultants to overcome the challenges associated with deploying Web-based applications," said Robert Ball, vice president, International, Akamai. "Akamai's partners are at the forefront of developing J2EE applications that will have instant access to 'on demand' scale, reach, and reliability. We're delighted that Cybercom has become our partner. Their capabilities will fully support our offerings to customers in northern Europe."
