Opening of Dagab’s new high-bay storage facility in Gothenburg
Today, Dagab opened its new, fully automated storage facility for pallet handling. The facility is high-bay warehouse and is 21 meters in height with 10,000 pallet squares. Naturally, all systems have state-of-the-art technology.
Construction of the high-bay storage facility commenced in October, 2005. It has now been officially opened even though it has been in use since July. The warehouse has 2,500 square meters of floor space and has a capacity equal to a conventional warehouse of between 7,000 and 8,000 square meters. Theoretically, the warehouse will be able to handle 152 pallet movements per hour, which can be compared with the 20 pallet movements an hour that is the capacity of a conventional warehouse. “As everyone knows, we are very happy about our new high-bay storage facility, which will greatly enhance our efficiency,” says Håkan Åkerström, President, Dagab. During the planning and construction phases, Dagab cooperated considerably with Gothenburg’s city architects, since the high-bay storage facility, with its 21-meter height, has become a landmark in Hisingen and has changed the Gothenburg skyline. “Cooperation with the architects was very successful and our high-bay storage facility has not only given us better prerequisites for working efficiently, but we also have a very beautiful warehouse building,” says Christian Jensen, Operations Manager, Dagab Backa. Dagab is a listed wholesale trading company that is owned by Axfood and supplies goods to Axfood’s stores, Willys, Willys hemma and Hemköp.
