Animals, dolls and more than 150 artists at Nikolaj Kunsthal in Copenhagen
Nikolaj Kunsthal, Copenhagen Contemporary Art Centre
Opening on Friday, November 15, 2013, 5 – 7 pm.
Exhibition period: November 16, 2013 – January 26, 2014
This weekend, two new exhibitions open at Nikolaj Kunsthal (Copenhagen Contemporary Art Centre) in Denmark.
The exhibition ZEIGEN. An Audio Tour through Copenhagen by Karin Sander brings together more than 150 artists associated to Copenhagen. The internationally renowned German artist Karin Sander has invited each of them to produce a sound piece, any kind of sound, description, reading, music or whatever that would translate their work or working process into sound and make it “visible”. Sander has not defined any limiting requirements. Thus, the varied audio pieces are themselves the result of an artistic process which becomes “visible” in this exhibition.
Among the participating artists are established, but also emerging names, all of which are invited to this exhibition by Karin Sander in collaboration with Nikolaj Kunsthal and external curator Michael Thouber, Head of the TV channel DR2 of the Danish broadcasting corporation.
ZEIGEN has been realised in previous instances such as Berlin, Vienna, Madrid, and Reykjavik.
Furthermore, Nikolaj Kunsthal, Copenhagen Contemporary Art Centre, for the first time presents a major solo exhibition of works by Danish Marika Seidler. Human Animal is the result of her investigation over many years of the creating of identity, subcultures and inter-species communication, set in a hybrid field of staged documentary, anthropology and visual art.
With her exhibition, Seidler focuses partly on how man relates to animals and challenges the dynamics at play between the two, and partly on the dynamic exchange between the human and the artificial. This is presented, among other ways, in three brand new video installations.
Overview of participating artists is available in attached press release.
Prior to the opening of the exhibition ZEIGEN, Karin Sander will be in Denmark and available for interviews.
