August 30 to September 1 2013

The countdown has started for the opening of Denmark’s new international art fair, Art Copenhagen, presenting art works by nearly 400 artists from 59 Danish and international galleries.

Copenhagen is the art capital of Scandinavia, and the city’s lively art scene has international attention. This year Art Copenhagen will be a meeting point for a total of 59 galleries from the Danish art scene and a wide range of international galleries from 15 countries. Nearly 400 artists are presented. 35 of the galleries have traveled far to be a part of the first edition of Art Copenhagen as an International art fair – from Los Angeles, Singapore, France and Spain. Most of the foreign galleries are presented for the first time ever in Denmark – e.g. British Vane, Miami-based Black Square Gallery and the German galleries Rasche Ripken and Polarraum.

You can also meet well-known Danish galleries as Hans Alf Gallery, Galerie Wolfsen, Galerie Moderne and Gallery Poulsen. Gallery Poulsen presents a solo exhibition of the legendary musician and artist Leonard Cohen for the first time in Denmark.

The fair presents art works for a two-digit amount of  both classic modern artists and of the contemporary art stars of tomorrow. The price spread of Art Copenhagen is huge. The most expensive art work is by Sam Francis at sale for EUR 300.000 to paper works of Danish contemporary artists for just EUR 100.

This year's fair focuses on new art buyers, by presenting the new initiative ART START. ART START is an exhibition where all participating galleries can contribute with an original piece of art at a fixed price of EUR 1,000.

At Art Copenhagen guests can also meet Danish artists in artist talks and benefit from free guided tours.
