COPENHAGEN SUMMER DANCE
August 5-11, 2013

Copenhagen Summer Dance is an open-air contemporary dance event presenting Danish Dance Theatre and other international contemporary dance companies at the Copenhagen Police Headquarters. Through the years Copenhagen Summer Dance has established itself as a popular Danish summer tradition with internationally award winning dance companies.

Copenhagen Summer Dance is produced by Danish Dance Theatre, whos repertoire spans from large stage productions at The Royal Danish Theatre to open-air events such as Copenhagen Summer Dance. Today, Danish Dance Theatre is the foremost contemporary dance company in Denmark with hand-picked dancers from all over the world.

International choreographers and dancers
This year Copenhagen Summer Dance will present such exciting names as Örjan Andersson, one of Swedens most established choreographers, who will present excerpts of his work “Red” and music by Sjostakovitj’s symphony No. 8. The price-winning Israeli choreographer Idan Sharabi will be arriving with two of his own dancers. He is an exciting choreographer worth keeping an eye on.

The polish choreographer Jacek Przybylowicz will visit the festival with five of his dancers from the Polish company Teatr Wielki in Poznań. Przybylowicz’s explosive career has already brought his works to some of the most prestigious modern dance festivals in over 50 countries around the world.

Old classics and new sneak previews
Furthermore, Danish Dance Theatre will be presenting excerpts of previous successful performances, a sneak preview of the upcoming season and a brand new work by Artistic Director, Tim Rushton (MBE) inspired by the Greek myth Syrinx and the famous and sensorial Nijinsky ballet The Afternoon of a Faun. The Danish Royal ballet dancers Ida Praetorius and Andreas Kaas will make a guest performance choreographed by Alessandro Sousa Pereira. The performance is called “Traditional” and it won the famous Erik Bruhn Prize in Canada for best choreography, best female and best male dancer.

Live-music and percussion
Additionally, this year's program will feature the Danish drummer David Hildebrand who will make everything explode with his dramatic soundscapes to the piece The End of Loneliness. The New York based flutist Yael Acher, a multi-genre instrumentalist who performs classical, improvisation, jazz, and electronic, with ensembles and choirs as well as modern dancers and DJ’s will as well be guest staring.
