“I am really happy and proud of the program we can present to our guests this August.  In this year's selection, we live up to our dogma "Expect the unexpected”. Not only we will travel around the world but also on tour of the human mind. From a nightclub in Berlin to the mines of Central America. From the first kiss to the end of life. With the huge range of this in look, narrative and filmic effects are OFF14’s competition program packed with powerful stories and great movies.”

Around the world in 30 minutes
OFF14 continues the tradition of attracting filmmakers from all over the world. Among the selected films you will find as distant origin countries as Tunisia, South Korea and Israel. And festival director Birgitte Weinberger is pleased to OFF reaches so far beyond Denmark.

“It is lovely, that there’s so much interest from abroad. Especially because these countries are so far away and they have got so different traditions, when it comes to movies and short films. They contribute to the festival in a way the Danish and Scandinavian short films don’t have the ability to.”

From Odense to the Oscars®
66 foreign films and 26 Danish films are featured at OFF14. Among the Danish short films you will find this year’s Oscar®-winner in the Short Film Category ‘Helium’, which is made by the Danish film maker Anders Walter.

And the short film is a genre that is moving forward right now. Both in interest and quality, says Birgitte Weinberger.

"As a genre film in the short format are very, very interesting. Short films are intense. They are daring and full of narrative urgency and ferocity. They are the training course for talents and the playground for the professionals where you free of commercial constraints can explore art. Take chances. Have the courage to fail and reach unexpected height when you succeed. "
