Danish Crafts has appointed Kasper Salto and Thomas Sigsgaard as curators for Danish Crafts’ upcoming exhibition in Milan. The exhibition is titled MINDCRAFT13 and will be presented at the major design event Fuori Salone this spring on 9-14 April 2013. MINDCRAFT13 is Danish Crafts’ sixth promotion campaign in Milan.
With the designer duo of Salto and Sigsgaard, Danish Crafts has put a strong new team in charge of selecting the participants for the sixth MINDCRAFT exhibition in Milan. MINDCRAFT combines the words MIND and CRAFT in reflection of the fact that the exhibited works represent both exquisite craftsmanship and a philosophical aspect in the form of a message or an opinion.
Salto & Sigsgaard are experienced MINDCRAFT participants with highly successful representations in two of Danish Crafts’ previous MINDCRAFT exhibitions. They know what it means to work with a manufacturer and get a product ready for launch. They took part in MINDCRAFT09 with the pendant lamp Wet Bell and in MINDCRAFT10 with the wall-mounted lamp Yellow Fin. Wet Bell is now in production by the Italian lamp manufacturer Nemo, owned by one of Italy’s leading furniture manufacturers, Cassina. Nemo Cassina spotted the lamp’s potential when the prototype was presented at the MINDCRAFT exhibition in 2009.
– "In MINDCRAFT13 we want to focus on the thoughts and influences that led to the works", say Salto and Sigsgaard. "We want to shed light on the process and convey the interesting stories behind the works. Giving the visitors insight into the creative process can be inspiring and make the exhibition a much greater experience".
In connection with all six MINDCRAFT exhibitions, Danish Crafts has worked with external curators. In previous years, the curators were, respectively, architect Karen Kjærgaard and designer Cecilie Manz.
