First iron ore shipment leaves for Salzgitter

On Thursday, MS Transosprey left the port of Hargshamn with the first load of ore after the reopening of the Dannemora iron ore mine. The cargo, comprising 17,000 tonnes of iron ore, will be unloaded in Hamburg for further transportation to Salzgitter Flachstahl's steelworks.

"The homogenisation store at Hargshamn is now up and running, ore deliveries are underway and operations are starting to generate sales revenue," says CEO Staffan Bennerdt.

The planned crude ore capacity at the sorting plant has now been achieved, while fine-tuning of the process equipment is still in progress. The annual rate of production will gradually be increased to one million tonnes during 2012.
