James Horley, from Splott, Cardiff has combated diabetes and his sparing partner to fight his way to the top. He fought the best from around the world to win first place at the World Tang Soo Do championship in Australia. Amazingly it was his sparing partner 21 year old John Joy he met in the final James said "It all sank in when I was stood on the podium.” The 6ft tall James raised the £2,000 for his tickets with the help of his family. Proud father Stephen Horley said his son had come a long way in the sport. “He’s just a kid from Splott but there was a call to arms and he’s getting very impressive,” said Mr Horley, 43. “There were other regions who got grant funding and help from the sports council, but James didn’t get anything and we had to fund raise ourselves. “Most of his focus has gone into martial arts, though he’s got good grades and a reasonable work ethic. “He’s got a good set of shoulders and he gets lots of respect for what he’s doing – I’ll definitely be looked after in my older days.” James is a business studies student at Glamorgan University and is almost at the end of his course. “His achievements are proof that even a condition like diabetes can not stop you reaching the top if you are focused on your goals” said Sean from http://www.softspotsshoessale.com
