A study of Decim's Denzir coping shows superior strength The in-vitro study of veneered Denzir copings (containing an inner construction made of yttria-oxide-stabilized zirconia with a veneering ceramic) performed by Prof. Heinrich Kappert, University of Freiburg, Germany, confirms all expectations. The study is made at the request of Vita Zahnfabrik and Decim and it includes strength and heating tests. Preliminary results show that a dental crown with the combination of a Decim System-manufactured Denzir coping with VITA veneering ceramic Vitadur D is superior to other ceramic crowns on the market. The study shows that the Denzir coping remains intact when the crown is exposed to an increase of pressure finally resulting in fracture of the veenering ceramic. Good news. The result indicates that the veneered Denzir coping, with its strength and aesthetics, could replace the conventional metal copings most frequently used today. In addition the patient is provided with a product with high biocompatibility. We are planning to release the final results of the study later this spring, says Anders Sundh, dentist and director of scientific research at Decim. The global potential for crowns is estimated to be 12 billion SEK. The segment of full ceramic crowns is growing at the expense of conventional metal ceramic alternatives (i.e. gold alloys and titanium). Decim will launch the veneered Denzir coping on the Scandinavian market on March 1, 2000. The Decim product line now includes copings and inlays in Denzir and inlays in ProCAD.
