MOD reminds visitors to stay safe at Imber this summer

The sleepy village of Imber – nestled deep in the heart of Salisbury Plain – will once again open its doors to visitors this summer. Between Saturday 8th August and Sunday 23rd August the public will be able to access the site, which continues to be used as a military training area. Although training operations are not underway when the village is open to the public, the DIO, which manages the site for the Ministry of Defence, has a responsibility to ensure that anyone visiting this historic village has a safe and enjoyable experience. DIO presents latest Masterplan for Salisbury Plain Area

On 20 May 2014 the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) will publish its latest development plans for the Salisbury Plain area following the public consultation exercise held between 19 February and 1 April 2014. To ensure people are kept as informed as possible, they will be able to view the Masterplan document at www.gov.uk/dio and at Salisbury, Tidworth, Ludgershall, Amesbury and Durrington libraries. DIO supports inaugural Imber Ultra Marathon

Charity fundraisers got a big boost in organising the first Imber Ultra Marathon – thanks to staff from the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) providing information and guidance to support the race across Salisbury Plain. The race was jointly organised by Avon Valley Runners and Westbury Rotary Club, providing the expertise and enthusiasm for such an event. Osprey takes to the skies over Salisbury Plain

United States Air Force (USAF) pilots have been using vertical take-off aircraft to carry out mission-specific training on Salisbury Plain. Pilots flying CV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft from the 352nd Special Operations Group have been conducting training. They have been flying day and night, one to two times a week, over the last month The CV-22 Osprey combines the vertical takeoff, hover and vertical landing qualities of a helicopter with the long-range, fuel efficiency and speed characteristics of a turboprop aircraft. Dutch Marines have completed a major live firing exercise on Salisbury Plain – allowing them to join forces with Army gunners from the Netherlands and make use of training facilities unavailable in their home country. DIO and NFU tackle dog attacks on Salisbury Plain

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) have joined forces in the battle to stop dogs attacking cattle and sheep on Salisbury Plain. About 150 temporary warning signs advising people how to manage their dogs around livestock will soon be seen in and around neighbouring fields on the Plain. Some 1,200 troops from across Europe recently descended on Salisbury Plain to take part in a major training exercise involving the European Union (EU) Battle Group.
