Filmmakers Of Every Level Of Experience Invited To Submit Films For Prizes & Recognition

(Washington, D.C.) -- The award-winning GI Film Festival, the nation’s only military-themed film festival, announced today's its official "call for film entries" for its 7th Annual GI Film Festival to be held in Washington, D.C. in May 2013. The GI Film Festival is open to filmmakers of all levels of experience -- from first-timers to veteran directors and producers. Each submission must include at least one major armed forces character (real or fictitious) who is portrayed in a respectful manner. Prizes are awarded to winners in each of the main categories which include feature and short narrative films, feature and short documentary films and student films.

"GI Film Festival filmmakers can connect with top industry professionals while also enjoying a week of unforgettable events in the nation’s capital, including our congressional reception, awards ceremonies, red carpet parties, celebrity meet-and-greets and our filmmaker boot camp.

The early film submission deadline for the 7th Annual GI Film Festival in Washington, D.C. is December 15, 2012 and costs $35 per submission. The regular deadline is January 22, 2013 and costs $40 per submission, extended deadline February 15, 2012 costs $45 per submission and the late deadline is March 1, 2012 and costs $60 per submission. There are also submission discounts available for students and military veterans. There is no charge for active duty military to submit a film. All screened films will also be able to add the GI Film Festival honor to the film's listing on the Internet Movie Database site (www.IMDB.com).

Highlights of the past 2012 GI Film Festival in Washington, D.C. included awards ceremonies honoring actors Joe Mantegna, Sally Pressman and Brian McNamara, a 50th Anniversary Vietnam War reception hosted by U.S. Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and U.S. Congressmen Geoff Davis and Sam Johnson, a Wounded Warrior Appreciation Night featuring an advanced screening of the NBC Universal action feature film Battleship and international film screenings hosted by the Canadian Embassy and TV host Pat Sajak.

In 2012, the Pentagon Channel began broadcasting a weekly GI Film Festival television show to American service members around the world and to 30 million homes in the United States. All films submitted to the GI Film Festival are considered for this groundbreaking television series. Films screened by the GI Film Festival have been nominated for Academy Awards, earned distribution in theaters and retail stores, broadcast on cable networks and available via video-on-demand and the Web.

The GI Film Festival is a 501 c (3) nonprofit educational organization and the only film festival in the nation to focus on preserving the stories of American veterans.
