What Is A Healthy Smile Worth?

What is a healthy smile worth? Everything, when you consider the many facets of life impacted by your smile. Leading industry experts estimate that a smile brings not only positive feelings, but could also attract a significant other, help land a job or promotion, build up self-confidence and maybe even bring good luck. Not to mention that your oral health is directly connected to your overall health and well-being. More than one-third of Americans do not have access to dental insurance, according to a U.S. Senate subcommittee on primary health and aging. And only 45 percent of Americans, ages two and older saw a dental provider in the past 12 months.

“There is nothing better than bringing a smile to someone’s face,” states Jenn Stoll, chief commercial officer of :DentalPlans. “That’s our specialty, not just in what we do, but how we strive to do business and treat each and every member.”

Last year, single mom, Stephanie Stewart Feld of Freeport, IL received $5,000 worth of free dental care as the winner of :DentalPlans’ smile makeover. Stephanie had her last appointment with Dr. Chad Reedy, DDS of Freeport, in the fall of 2013. The five-month treatment plan included an evaluation, x-rays, resin on two teeth, tooth extractions, and temporary and permanent dentures.

“I feel great and am so appreciative of :DentalPlans, Dr. Reedy, and his staff,” said Stephanie. “I now have the smile I have always hoped for. Every day I teach my son the importance of proper dental care and now I can show him my true smile. Winning the makeover allowed me to get a lot of the work done that I needed right away, instead of over the course of many years. And winning the dental savings plan for a year has enabled my son and me to get the proper dental care we need all year long.”

According to a recent study completed for the American Dental Association, out-of-pocket payments constitute 42 percent of dental expenditures, compared to 11 percent of health expenditures. “So often, the question of receiving dental care is not whether a person wants it or not, but one of ‘can I afford it?’ Through our dental savings plans offerings, we hope to bring dental care to more Americans, making it affordable and accessible to everyone,” says Stoll.
