Mölndal, Sweden, May 12, 2012 With sales currently growing faster than the premium CAD/CAM customized abutment segment, Atlantis™ production in the USA and in Sweden expand to meet the increased demand. During 2012, sales will reach a milestone – a total of one million Atlantis™ abutments sold.

“I believe that our growth is the result of Astra Tech’s solid industry experience and our commitment to listen and respond to the feedback and needs of our customers. Every aspect of Atlantis™, and the related quality products and services, has gone through a rigorous development process. With our line of products and services, we have a top of the line offer to the market in digital dentistry” says Mikael Sander, Group Vice President Digital Implant Solution.

Atlantis, compatible with all major implant systems, has become the market leading CAD/CAM solution in North America, with a very positive response in Europe and Australia. Since the European launch in 2008, Atlantis has added value for dental professionals and their patients. In addition to the outstanding function and esthetics, Atlantis offers a valuable business model for the laboratory, providing the highest quality every time, regardless of workload. The Atlantis abutments for cement-retained restorations are just one part of a long line of products and services that has been introduced during the past years.

New products
Astra Tech has released Atlantis crown abutment for single-tooth, screw-retained restorations, several new zirconia shades (including translucent ), the Atlantis abutment core file, a high-precision digital file that replaces scan of the abutment and the cast for the laboratories, as well as a number of interfaces for newly added third-party system manufacturers.

New services
New services include Atlantis 3D Editor, enhancing the communication between the laboratory, the dentist and Atlantis, and Atlantis™ lab-based scanning, an important service ensuring a truly efficient digital workflow for the laboratory. Lab-based scanning allows for dental models to be kept at the laboratory throughout the entire production process of the final restoration. This provides several advantages, such as quicker delivery and lower costs for both handling and transportation. All in all, a much appreciated state-of-the-art technology, where the laboratory can use its own scanners to scan for Atlantis abutments. Today, scanners from 3M ESPE and Dental Wings support lab-based scanning and later this year scanners from 3Shape will be added to the list, currently getting positive reviews in the pre-market test phase.

Atlantis™ patient-specific abutments
Atlantis™ patient-specific abutments are designed and fabricated using Atlantis VAD™ (Virtual Abutment Design) software, a patented process that combines state-of-the-art 3D optical scanning, advanced software and manufacturing methods to deliver patient-specific abutments that eliminates the need for hand modification. Atlantis™ patient-specific abutments are available for all major implant systems and in biocompatible materials such as titanium, gold-shaded titanium and different shades of zirconia, including a translucent zirconia in white for the Atlantis™ Crown Abutment.
