PRESS RELEASE 22 JULY 2010 BISHOPBRIGGS LOCAL CHOSEN TO STAR IN SPECTACULAR HIGHLAND HEARTBEAT PRODUCTION Frances Mayli McCann (21) will be taking to the stage for the impressive Highland Heartbeat live shows at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort this summer. Highland Heartbeat is a television and live concert music show, soon to be broadcast on BBC2, highlighting the best of Scottish talent. The live show consists of singers and musicians specialising in both traditional and contemporary Scottish Music which aims to touch hearts by weaving together audiences through beautiful songs, music and landscape. The Macdonald Aviemore Resort’s main auditorium will be home to Highland Heartbeat on 29, 30 July and 4, 5, 18, 19 August 2010. Frances was born and raised in Bishopbriggs and showed an early enthusiasm for performing. She attended Turnbull High School and at the age of 10, went to stage school where she trained in drama, singing and dance, giving her a true passion for musical theatre. In 2006, Frances joined the Glasgow Academy of Musical Theatre Arts where she studied musical theatre. She played various roles including Snow White in the production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Dance Captain in Beauty and the Beast and was a featured artist at the showbiz ball. In her final year at GAMTA, Frances was awarded the singing and jazz prize and overall performer of the year accolade. Since graduating in 2009, Frances has gone on to star in popular Scottish soap River City, BBC children’s programme Against All Odds, The Glasgow Kings pantomime of Aladdin as Princess Jasmine and was a series finalist in Britannia High for ITV Productions. Frances has also just been cast in the new BBC3 production Lip Service. Frances won her part in the Highland Heartbeat cast by taking part in Scotland wide auditions, judged by Fiona Kennedy, the show’s creator and Phil Cunningham, the famous Scottish music star. Fiona Kennedy, creator of Highland Heartbeat, said: “Frances has a superb voice and can knock socks off Beyonce in my view! She's a lovely girl who I believe will go far." Frances will use her extensive chorography experience by teaching at a series of special talent workshops at the Resort this summer. The workshops, which are open to the public, will be held twice daily from 10am – 11.30am for 5-11 years and 2.30pm – 4.30pm for 12-17 years on 29, 30 July and 4, 5, 18, 19 August 2010. The workshops will offer attendees the chance to learn songs from the show, have professional singing tuition, choreography and breathing lessons. Everyone taking part in the workshops will have the opportunity to join the group on stage during one of the highly anticipated live shows.
