European Logistics Management (ELM), a member of the Scott Group, has teamed up with leading insulation manufacturer Isover and launched a pallet recovery service for its customers. The service is designed to reduce packaging waste by encouraging the re-use of wooden pallets. In a drive to help customers improve their sustainability credentials, ELM will be collecting the pallets from merchants, distributors and contractors, at no cost to their businesses, and returning them to Isover for re-use. Michael Noble, managing director at ELM, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Isover on this exciting new service. With immediate effect all pallets used in the delivery of Isover insulation will be marked with the Isover name to aid identification in the market. This initiative is absolutely in line with the industry’s objective of reducing packaging waste and promoting the re-use of transit packaging”. Stacey Davis, marketing director for Isover comments: “The pallet repatriation scheme was launched to give our customers the opportunity to dispose of their pallets at no cost to them and in an environmentally sound way. “There are approximately 90 million pallets currently in use throughout the UK, with thousands ending up in landfill sites every week. Isover recognised the need to provide a service for people to prevent contributing to pallet waste on this scale and we are aiming to collect 40 per cent of our pallets in the first year of offering the scheme. We believe the scheme will further highlight Isover’s commitment to our 3 Point Plan for environmental sustainability, by using less materials and creating less waste.” ELM is a reverse logistics specialist which offers a systematic and environmentally responsible approach to the use of transit packaging, reducing costs and helping to meet sustainability targets.
