Food from Argll gets set for summer event season

May is bursting with events for the Argyll Food Producers Groups – Food from Argyll initiative. The producers tackle Murrayfields rugby league event this weekend (1/2 May) before returning for the international sevens at the end of the month (29/30 May). Other events in May include the local Loch Fyne Food Fair at Inveraray Castle (15/16 May) and a long haul to Bangor to cater for Radio One’s Big Weekend (22/23 May). This packed schedule has been inspired by Virginia Sumsion the groups new Market Development Manager. Virginia, who divides her time between marketing work for Loch Fyne Oysters and the Argyll Food Producers, has secured the interest of many new events for the 2010 season. She said: “My role involves securing the top events for the group over the season that will achieve the producers the best exposure and return. We also aim to expand the benefits of the Food From Argyll identity to a wider group of Argyll food producers by developing the Food From Argyll label as a quality identifier for the region. This will help us to continue to drive the region as a good food producer and a great food destination.” Virginia brings 20 years of food marketing and event experience from her work at Loch Fyne Oysters and has also worked with the group since it’s first event at Connect in 2007. Katie Ritchie, Chair of AFP and from Barbreck farms said: “Virginia has fantastic experience and has been able to hit the ground running this season. We hope to be able to expand the benefits to a wider producer base and develop the joined up marketing to continue to raise the profile of Argyll.” More details of the Argyll Food Producers can be found at www.argyllandtheisles.com The AFP have secured Scottish Government funding from the Marketing Development Scheme to help meet the costs of this part time role.
