New UK coconut water brand hits the market
UK-based, Freedom Brands Ltd, is set to launch its exciting new Go Coco Coconut Water to the UK food and drink market at IFE 2011 – the UK’s largest gathering of international food and drink trade suppliers, taking place at London’s ExCeL on 13th-16th March. Dr Ross Currie, Executive Director at Freedom Brands Ltd, said: “Coconut water is fast becoming one of the most popular natural alternatives to traditional energy drinks, with a strong sport and celebrity following in the USA. We’ve seen the market grow from 0 to $450M in a little over ten years with the largest markets in Brazil – where the product originated – and the US, so it’s very exciting for us to be launching in the UK where we have identified a gap in the market for a UK company to bring this fantastic product to the market.” He continued: “One serving of Go Coco, sourced from palm trees in Thailand, has more potassium than two bananas and contains fifteen times the amount found in most sport and energy drinks, allowing rehydration to occur three times quicker than with water.” Coconut water is a revitalising, sweet tasting drink which provides pure refreshment, naturally. For thousands of years, it has been regarded as one of the finest, natural sources of nutrition and hydration, boasting a wealth of health and beauty benefits. Not to be confused with coconut milk (extracted from the meat of a mature, brown coconut) coconut water is extracted from young, green coconuts and is zero fat, low calorie and naturally isotonic. It is full of electrolytes, including potassium, magnesium, calcium, sodium and phosphorous, which are essential for muscle movement, brain operation and hydration. Go Coco is available in 500ml resealable PET plastic bottles and is competitively priced at £1.89 RRP, giving consumers more coconut water for less, compared to a price point of £1.79 for 330ml with competitor brands. Targeted at health conscious consumers and sports enthusiasts, Go Coco hope to secure retail listings with health food merchants, health & fitness centres and in the long-term, with multiple retail outlets UK-wide. Go Coco will also be exhibiting at the Natural and Organic Foods Trade Show at the Olympia, London on the 3rd and 4th April.
