Thomas Robinson Architects is hosting its annual open evening at Esporta in Milngavie on Thursday 27th January 2011 from 5-9pm. The experts will be offering free architectural advice to people planning on embarking on a building project – be it extending, refurbishing or new build. Due to the event’s popularity in previous years, the programme has been expanded to include presentations from guest consultants: Allied Surveyors, one of Scotland’s biggest Chartered Surveyors’ practices; and the Energy Saving Trust, a non-profit organisation that provides free and impartial advice on saving energy. Some of the topics that are to be covered throughout the course of the evening include advice on: • How to extend for energy efficiency and style • How much do architects cost and is it a good investment? • Home Reports • Energy Saving grants and how to save energy in the home Tom Robinson of Thomas Robinson Architects said: “The open evening is a perfect opportunity for people considering embarking on an extension or self build project, to find out about all the issues involved. As a firm we are passionate about incorporating energy reduction measures into our projects, so I am particularly pleased to welcome the Energy Savings Trust who will provide a wealth of valuable information in this area.” “We also now offer a small range of off-the-peg sustainable house designs which are more affordable if they suit your site. We welcome guests to bring along project ideas and photos of their houses, or sites for discussion on the night.” Register your interest by contacting Thomas Robinson Architects on T: 01360 771 648 or E: mail@thomasrobinsonarchitects.co.uk, or just drop in. Thomas Robinson Architects is a RIBA chartered practice. The firm was established in 1999 by architects Tom and Fiona Robinson, and offers a diverse range of skills and experience. Its portfolio includes high quality new buildings and extensions, particularly individual houses in sensitive locations, conservation of listed buildings and the imaginative re-use or alteration of listed buildings. In 2009, The Herald’s Best Luxury Home Award was won by a project in Kilmacolm known as Avenel, where Thomas Robinson Architects worked as executive architects with Robert Adam Architects on a unique development of five Arts and Crafts style houses. Tom Robinson is one of a small number of architects in Scotland who is accredited in conservation architecture under the Royal Incorporation of Architects of Scotland Accreditation Scheme. The firm has a reputation for delivering high quality design, project management and producing buildings and spaces which are beautiful and appropriate to their function and environment; paying particular attention to the vernacular detail of the location. The practice is also particularly strong on sustainable design and use energy modelling software on new build houses. For those who want the ultimate eco house Tom Robinson has just completed the Certified European Passivhaus Designer (CEPH) course and is able to offer Passivhaus design or the equivalent standard for refurbishment. The Passivhaus Standard is the fastest growing low energy standard in Europe with over 20,000 buildings realised to date, with many more currently being designed and constructed. Passivhaus buildings have a high level of indoor air quality and roughly achieve a 75% reduction in space heating requirements compared to the standard practice for UK new build. Tom Robinson added: “Construction methods and buildings generally are changing. The 21st Century Architect should be designing buildings that require minimal energy input, have high standards of air quality and light quality, be built to last, but they must also be beautifully proportioned, highly desirable and also affordable. These are some of our goals. If you have a project that you would like to discuss please come along to our evening or get in touch.” For more information and to view case studies visit www.thomasrobinsonarchitects.co.uk Ends This information and further details are available from Steph Jones at Denvir T: 01786 448160 E: steph@denvirmarketing.com
