Scotland and Ireland-based timber processing firm, Glennon Brothers, welcomed Labour MSP for Strathkelvin and Bearsden, David Whitton, as part of a visit organised by ConFor (The Confederation of Forest Industries UK Ltd), to its Adam Wilson & Sons sawmill plant in Troon on Monday 28th March, followed just a day later by a visit from Consul General of Ireland to Scotland, Susan Conlon. Mike Glennon, joint managing director, Glennon Brothers Group, said: We’re delighted to welcome David Whitton MSP and the Consul General, Susan Conlon, to see first hand the investments we have made in our planing and treatment facilities here in Troon”. David Whitton, Scottish Labour Spokesperson for Skills, said: "Glennon Brothers is a premier player in the UK timber market, and it is encouraging to see the business stimulating the local economy. I am particularly impressed by the environmental credentials that the business displays and how its port location is utilised. The ability to add value through its Timber Frame Homes business, located on the same site, is also very impressive. I also commend the company's onsite efficiency, its commitment to a quality product offering through continual investment in its operation, and the commitment to skills training for the workforce." Mr Whitton also congratulated the business on its pledge to reducing its impact on the environment after learning that logs at the site are delivered by boat, allowing more timber to be transported at once. Consul General of Ireland to Scotland, Susan Conlon, who visited the plant on Tuesday said: “Glennon Brothers has continued to invest in this site with a new planing line and treatment facilities, and this is evident in the high quality products being produced on site. “The business here at Troon is a great example of a successful Irish company operating in Scotland and demonstrates a visible partnership between the two countries.” Adam Wilson & Son is part of the Glennon Brothers Group which since 1913, has been manufacturing high-quality timber products and is now the premier name in the Irish and UK timber processing industry. Through Glennon Brothers plants in Ireland, and Windymains Timber and Adam Wilsons in Scotland, the firm offers a one-stop-shop solution, supplying both the Irish and UK markets with volume products for the construction, pallet wood and fencing industries. This one-stop-shop approach ensures the firm continues to push the boundaries of machinery and technology to produce home grown timber to the highest international standards. The Glennon Brothers Group is also a leading provider of quality timber frame homes and engineered roof trusses in the UK and Ireland through Alexander Timber Design based in Troon, and Dempsey Timber Engineering (DTE) based in Arklow. www.glennonbrothers.ie Ends Image (L – R) David Rodger, Chief Executive Adam Wilsons & Sons; Susan Conlon, Consul General Ireland to Scotland; Mike Glennon, Joint Chief Executive Glennon Brothers; Christine Esson, Manager Enterprise Ireland Glasgow.
