Even though his famous forefather never sat in the House of Lords, Winston Churchill is heading for Westminster on the 30th March to attend a reception in the Lords for the regional winners of the Countryside Alliance awards 2011. Representing Food from Argyll, which won the Scottish Best Use of Local Food award earlier this year, he will be flying the flag for Argyll against ten regional winners from England and one from Wales. Winston Churchill Venison was established in early 1990 and is now based in Dunoon. Having taught himself butchery in order to sell to friends and family, Winston slowly grew the business into the success it is today, harvesting high quality wild venison which is very low in cholesterol and fat. The Food from Argyll group was also recently in London exhibiting on the Scottish Pavilion at the International Food Exhibition at Excel. The Groups collaborative approach to event catering is being extended to joint marketing events and promotions, and associate members of the group are signing up to join in these activities and promote the region and its food. The Group has a full events programme lined up for the year, starting with the Loch Fyne Food Fair on the 14th and 15th May, where Winston’s Venison along with Beef and Lamb from Barbreck, Loch Fyne seafood and Bumbles puddings will all feature. More details of the Argyll Food Producers, along with how to get in touch, can be found at www.foodfromargyll.com and on Facebook. With demand growing for natural healthy meats - Venison is very low in cholesterol and fat - the Churchill's built a purpose built facility to process their deer carcasses during 2000. Sales took off and they now employ two full time butchers to process, package and despatch their venison, which has been sold mainly locally but now offers mail order and is going far and wide! Winston Churchill is a very small, family run business that takes great pride in all that they do. They are located in an Argyllshire forest, very near to Dunoon with breath taking views into Glen Kin and Kilmun hills across the Holy Loch. Balagowan has been their residence for the past twenty four years and sits on the south western edge of the Loch Lomond National Park.
