ZDA Landscape Architects Lead Project

On August 24, ZDA assisted in leading over 86 volunteers in the construction of a natural playground for Kennedy Heights Community Center in Madison, WI. Volunteers from the Kennedy Heights neighborhood, Demco, UW Health, Alliant Energy, Door Creek Church and the community at large helped. They assembled storage sheds, built raised planting beds, picnic tables, a bridge and stage, spread mulch, planted, and enjoyed refreshments and a lunchtime dedication ceremony during the public event. The new Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman Natural Playground is a much-needed addition to the Kennedy Heights community, and is already being utilized by the children.

ZDA led the initial design process involving representatives from Kennedy Heights’ staff, teachers, maintenance and grounds, city licensing liaison, and University of Wisconsin-Madison landscape architecture faculty. In March, ZDA collaborated with community members during a design charrette, with over 100 people attending to share ideas and discuss new opportunities. Months of planning and preparation resulted in a delightful outdoor space for both children and their families to enjoy and engage with nature.

ZDA is an award-winning landscape architecture, land planning and garden design firm dedicated to revitalizing your relationship with the outdoors.
