Designing Spaces Special Series - Spaces Of Hope Continues To Change Lives Of Those In Need

Designing Spaces Partnered with Rebuilding Together in order to help change the lives of a local South Florida family.

Pompano Beach, FL(April 1, 2013)- South Florida grandmother Joy Stewart knows about what it means to be in need.  Eight years ago she rescued her four grandchildren from the foster care system in New York City and brought them to Florida to live with her, but the battle to get them drained her of her resources, and years later she found herself in a very tough spot.

She was able to secure a house for them due to the generosity and what she calls “angels” but the house was in no way a home.  When the Broward County Sherriff’s Office discovered the terrible conditions they were living in, no heat, no water, no furniture or food, they started a call to action in the community and set out to help her in every way possible.

All it takes is one meeting with this young grandmother and her 4 special needs grandchildren, all with health problems due to being born crack addicted, and you can’t help but feel an overwhelming desire to help.  That’s how the producers of the hit home improvement show Designing Spaces™ felt when the local chapter of Rebuilding Together™ reached out to them.

After seeing the terrible conditions of the house, the Dream Team from Designing Spaces immediately began looking for sponsors and they were overwhelmed by the support and offers that started flooding in. Companies such as Tuesday Morning, Dow Building Solutions, Budget Blinds®, U.S. Bedding, Standard Furniture and more were so excited to help that the original Spaces of Hope episode of making over a room, blossomed into a three part series and a total house makeover.  Every room, every area, from functionality to furnishings the Stewart home received a complete renovation that turned their house into a home.

The final reveal when the Stewart family is presented with the key to their new home by KC, from KC & The Sunshine Band and they get to see their new home for the first time surrounded by all the people who helped make it happen is an episode not to be missed.
