South Florida music group will provide live entertainment for the children

WILTON MANORS, FL (June 14, 2012) At the Designing Spaces special “Kids Spaces of Hope – A Labor of Love Makeover” reveal on Friday, June 15, the Fort Lauderdale-raised musicians of Black Violin will perform for the children of Kids In Distress.

The revolutionary music group combines an array of styles and influences from jazz, hip-hop, funk and classical genres to produce a signature sound in an exciting performance. Rapper A. Star, another Broward County local, will join Black Violin’s performance with his inspirational and poetic lyrics, especially for the children of Kids In Distress. When asked if they would like to perform for the children of the Kids In Distress during the Designing Spaces reveal event, the group did not hesitate.

"We are excited to be a part of the unveiling of the newly remodeled center for the children who are in need of it. We would like to thank Kids In Distress and Designing Spaces for allowing us to be a part of this event,” said DJ tk of Black Violin. “Children are a big part of Black Violin's fan base, so it is always an honor to be able to give back to the future leaders of the next generation."

In addition to sharing their unique and groundbreaking music, Black Violin is committed to teaching children about the significance of music.  With school music programs being culled around the country, Kev and Wil B. are concerned that the urban youth of America will not have the opportunity to pursue music and will resort to self-destructive activities.

“We are so delighted to have Black Violin join us on our ‘Labor of Love Makeover’ project with Kids In Distress. As a mother of two, I have always encouraged my own children to express themselves through art and music,” said Executive Vice President of Programming and COO of Designing Spaces Lysa Liemer. “Black Violin, DJ tk and A. Star demonstrate great hope and inspiration for all of the children. They exemplify the Designing Spaces mission: ‘If you can dream it, you can do it’ - and they have!”

Also attending the reveal are Designing Spaces hosts Debbie Marie and David Jones, characters Clifford the Big Red Dog and Babar – King of the Elephants from Scholastic books famous children’s stories and mascot Stanley C. Panther of the Florida Panthers.

Project sponsors include Designing Spaces, RIF: Reading is Fundamental, Carl Budding, Proctor & Gamble and GTP flooring.  Additional donations are provided by Sanyo, Nintendo and U-Haul.

About Black Violin and A. Star

Kev Marcus and Wil B. met while studying at the Dillard High School of Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale.  The duo along with their DJ tk has performed with Alicia Keys, on Broadway and won the coveted title of Apollo Legend by the Apollo theatre in Harlem. This talented group of performers takes the labels given by the music industry and throws them out the window to show the world that music doesn’t exist in a box, rather in the minds that produce it, and that there are no limits in what a violin can do.  www.blackviolin.net

Rapper A. Star (Alexander Star) is thankful for the lesson he learned about the music industry early on: It’s one thing to be able to move units, but it takes something much greater than a buzz to be able to move people.  Love, logic and emotion are three things A. Star’s music illustrates most eloquently. A. Star respects anyone who takes their dream seriously enough to pursue it without regret.  www.alexanderstar.com
