Makeover special 'Kids Spaces of Hope - A Labor of Love' presented by award wining show Designing Spaces benefits children in South Florida

Pompano Beach, Fla. (July 9, 2012) The campus of Kids In Distress was a hotbed of excitement and squeals of delight as hundreds of onlookers watched the children descend upon their brand new activity house, courtesy of Designing Spaces during the live reveal on June 15th, 2012.

On August 2nd and 9th this uplifting Designing Spaces special “Kids Spaces of Hope – A Labor of Love” will air on Lifetime at 7:30 am ET., showcasing this incredible makeover and the journey it took to get there.

Award winning home improvement show Designing Spaces descended upon the Broward County campus of Kids In Distress for 3 weeks in order to do a complete overhaul to the 2,800 sq ft run-down space that served as an activity center for the children.  Kids In Distress, is a nonprofit organization that works tirelessly towards the prevention of child abuse and neglect and the preservation of family by helping thousands of local South Florida families a year.

“This is one of the most phenomenal groups of people I have ever encountered here in Florida” says Lysa Liemer Executive VP of Programming and COO of Designing Spaces, “they do so much for our community, we at Designing Spaces wanted to provide our strong helping hands to help make a difference for these children, to give them a space where they can create and express themselves.”

The special is presented by longtime Designing Spaces hosts Debbie Marie and David Jones and will follow the Designing Spaces Dream Team as they tear apart and re-build this multi-room center bringing the children a space for creativity and fun with elements such as a brand new library donated by Carl Buddig and RIF: Reading is Fundamental, as well as flat screen televisions and video game consoles donated by Sanyo and Nintendo. Additionally GTP Flooring donated new floors throughout the entire space and Procter & Gamble supplied enough cleaning materials to ensure the space will continue to look sparkling new.  All sponsors generously sent crews of volunteers to assist the Dream Team in the beautiful renovation making it a true team effort.

Major makeover specials like these present more of a challenge but the Designing Spaces Dream Team hardly noticed as they went about their “Labor of Love”.  Even local celebrities got involved, like Florida Panthers defenseman Ed Jovanovski, who rolled up his sleeves and wielded a paint brush as well as he does a hockey stick.

The presentation of the new space was as much of a delight to the grown-ups on hand as to the children who had been waiting for 3 weeks to see their new space.  It was a moment that brought tears of joy to all who were able to witness the reveal, particularly the hard working staff and volunteers of Kids In Distress.  Revolutionary music group Black Violin and rapper Alexander Star, South Florida natives themselves, joined the event performing a very special concert for the children making the event into a full scale celebration.

This is a 2 part special not to be missed! Tune in August 2nd and 9th to Lifetime at 7:30am (ET/PT) to follow the heartwarming journey of this incredible makeover as well as the exciting celebratory conclusion.
