Detection Technology expands its technology base with TDI-based X-Scan T camera family
Detection Technology Plc press release 17 December 2019 at 12:00 (EET)
Detection Technology, a global leader in X-ray detector solutions, has expanded its portfolio to TDI (Time Delay Integration) technology and has launched a TDI-based camera family called X-Scan T to enhance industrial inspection. The company expects TDI to become one of the major technologies for in-line industrial inspection applications, especially in the food industry.
The company has designed and optimized the X-Scan T series for demanding industrial environments. The X-Scan T is an ideal solution, especially for the food industry that values fast throughput times, precise material discrimination, and low power consumption in harsh production lines, and aims to reduce the amount of waste for cost and sustainability reasons.
“With our newcomer, there is no need to compromise. The X-Scan T provides high sensitivity with a low X-ray dose. For improved product safety and minimized throwaway waste, the image quality meets the most stringent requirements of industrial applications. At the same time, it halves the required X-ray power and doubles the detector lifetime under X-ray, when compared to the industry average. The low-dose operation mode also enables the minimization of shielding and thermal cooling of X-ray systems for reducing total life cycle costs by 20% and streamlining system designs. In addition, it is worth underlining that operation at low X-ray power speeds up the system certification process, or even makes it possible to skip the process in some countries,” says Jyrki Still, Chief Technology Officer at Detection Technology.
“It does not compromise on scanning speed either. With the application-optimized readout electronics and pixel sizes, X-Scan T sets a new speed standard in the industry: up to 150 m/min. For all these reasons, X-Scan T is a perfect match for quality inspection on high-speed bottling and canning lines, and bone detection in meat and seafood processing. Our solution also serves the inspection needs of the battery industry – just to highlight some potential use cases in more detail.”
The TDI technology features high sensitivity and enhanced contrast resolution. On top of that, the photodiode-based sensor, the fast and sensitive scintillator, and the signal processing chain, which is capable of reading each single pixel, further boost the imaging performance of the detector family.
“The photodiode-based sensor is a unique feature that only we provide. It is one of the key features that contributes not just to image quality, but also enables more robust and long-lasting detector solutions.”
The X-Scan T is built on a well-proven and modular platform that is easy to scale for a variety of system configurations. Equipped with a built-in control unit, embedded TDI algorithm and other data processing functions, the X-Scan T is a true plug-and-play type of detector solution. The series comes with robust mechanics, reliable industrial connections, and bidirectional scanning operation for improved usability. The X-Scan T camera family is available for orders.
TDI is an X-ray imaging technology, in which a detector produces a continuous video image of a moving object by means of a stack of linear arrays. By synchronizing the data transfer timing with the movement of the object, the signal is integrated without smear. As a result, TDI provides higher sensitivity than standard line scan detectors with less power.
