Devon Duvets, the award winning, family-run and family-owned soft bedding company, is the first and only soft filled bedding maker in the UK to be awarded membership of The Guild of Master Craftsmen. The Devon based company was chosen to join this prestigious guild, which is the UK’s most established trade association to represent artisans and tradespeople who have skill, integrity and expertise. Devon Duvets was the first, and remains the only, soft bedding company in the UK to individually handcraft its 100% British wool duvets at its own workshops, which are located on the edge of Dartmoor.

“Each of our wool filled duvets, mattress toppers and pillows, is individually handcrafted by our professional seamstresses, who use sewing machines that have been designed to our specification. We do not prefabricate any element; every stage is done right here in Devon – from cutting the 100% cotton fabric for making the casings, to cutting the wool layers to fit exactly, and then sewing and binding the whole product to a design we created to provide a wonderful drape. There is a special skill involved and the result is a product that helps people to sleep better and is more luxurious than mass produced and prefabricated bedding.”

Devon Duvets is also well known for its commitment to supporting British sheep farmers and to sustainability.  All the high-quality wool used is gathered from farmers across Devon and the Southwest, and who have the highest standards of animal husbandry. The wool is fully traceable from the farms and certified by British Wool (formerly the Wool Marketing Board). The wool is then cleaned and processed without the use of chemicals to retain the wool’s natural properties. Only 100% cotton fabric is used to make the casings and the cotton fibres used to weave the fabric are certified by Better Cotton (BCI), a global initiative that supports more environmentally friendly cotton farming techniques. The end result is a range of products that are natural and sustainable.

For membership of The Guild of Master Craftsmen to be awarded, Devon Duvets had to undergo an assessment process, where all aspects of the products and day to day business operations were considered. The quality of the craftsmanship, a high standard of customer care and the company’s responsible sourcing and sustainable practices were all evaluated during the assessment.
