MIRANDA CALEY AND SARAH BUTLER JOIN DIAN SKELTON'S MOSTLYMANX ARTISAN COMMUNITY
Isle of Man, UK - Dian Skelton and MostlyManx are proud to announce two new acquisitions to their artisan directory - Miranda Caley of Glonney Design and Sarah Butler
Miranda Caley
Glonney Designs is owned and run by Manx born Miranda, who creates unique and brightly coloured kiln glass art works and jewellery from her Kirk Michael based studio.
Since announcing the release of the upcoming 2015 Artisan Directory, MostlyManx has had requests from local craftspeople coming in thick and fast to grab the opportunity of showcasing their talents!
Miranda launched Glonney Designs in 2012 after returning from Manchester Metropolitan University, where her love of glass was discovered. After working with many different media during the first year of her 3D design degree, Miranda fell in love with the tactility of glass and spent the rest of her degree studying glass blowing combined with kiln glass work.
Miranda’s work is heavily inspired by the bold, bright colours that are picked out from the Isle of Man’s striking scenery as well as its rich heritage. The link to the Island is also reflected in the name Miranda chose for the glass business, as the Manx Gaelic word ‘Glonney’ translates to ‘glass’.
If you wish to view more of Miranda’s work or to contact her directly, please visit her Facebook page – www.facebook.com/glonneydesigns.
Sarah Butler
Sarah Butler is a bespoke card maker who works from her home in Ramsey. A donation from all her card sales is given to the Manx Blind Welfare Society, a charity very close to Sarah’s heart.
Sarah is visually impaired. She has no sight in her left eye, poor eyesight in her right eye and has limited use of her left hand. Struggling to find employment due to her disabilities, Sarah set up Handmade Greetings Cards Isle of Man in November 2014, with help from the Government’s Small Business Start-up scheme.
Sarah’s handmade cards display tactile aspects, in the form of foam, felt, chipboard and feathers. She is able to take commissions for personalised cards and has over 250 die-cut shapes and various themes to choose from. She can also add Braille greetings if required.
